چکیده
Curcuma rhizomes are herbal remedies commonly used in oriental medicines such as Ayurveda and traditional Chinese medicine (Shishodia et al., 2005; Xia et al., 2005). During the past twenty years, curcumin, one of the key active substances of curcuma rhizomes attracted great interests in biomedical research (Shishodia et al., 2005; Anand et al., 2007). So far, thousands of research papers have been published with curcumin. The research interests have been extended to other active substances of curcuma rhizomes recently. Curcumol, a sesquiterpene is another active substance of curcuma rhizomes (Carey et al., 2013; Chen et al., 2014). Similar to curcumin, curcumol also displayed a variety of beneficial pharmacological activities in preclinical studies, including anti-inflammation (Chen et al., 2014), anti-rheumatism (Wang et al., 2012; Wang et al., 2014; Yu et al., 2014) and anti-seizure (Ding et al., 2014) and hepato-protection (Chen et al., 2014). Moreover, the anti-neoplastic effects of curcumol have been well reported in various cell culture models (Wang et al., 2011; Zhang et al., 2011; Tian et al., 2012; Jing et al., 2013; Guo et al., 2014). However, the in vivo anti-cancer efficacy of curcumol remained unclear. To

The Serotonin 5-HT2A Receptor Antagonist Ritanserin Induces Apoptosis in Human Colorectal Cancer and Acts in Synergy with Curcumin
Curcumin exhibits both cancer- preventive activity and growth inhibitory effects on several neoplastic cells including human colon cancer. Serotonin and its receptors have also been implicated in tumor development. This study investigated the effect of ritanserin, a selective serotonin 5HT2A receptor antagonist, alone and in combination with curcumin on colorectal cancer cell lines. Result...

Background: Chemo-immunotherapy is one of the new achievements for treatment of cancer, by which the success of anti-cancer therapy can be increased. In vitro studies have been shown that Arteether (ARE) induces apoptosis in tumor cells, but not in normal cells. Objective: To investigate the cytotoxic and immunomodulatory properties of Arteether in-vivo and in-vitro. Methods: In this study, we ...
متن کاملResveratrol down-regulates survivin and induces apoptosis in human multidrug-resistant SPC-A-1/CDDP cells.
We studied the effect of resveratrol treatment on multidrug-resistant human non-small cell lung cancer cells. Human multidrug-resistant SPC-A-1/CDDP cells were treated with resveratrol at a concentration of 25, 50, or 100 microM in in vitro studies and nude mice were implanted with multidrug-resistant SPC-A-1/and fed a special diet that included resveratrol at a dose of either 1 g/kg/day or 3 g...
متن کاملEvaluation of Growth Inhibitory and Apoptosis Inducing Activity of Human Calprotectin on the Human Gastric Cell Line (AGS)
Background: Calprotectin is cytotoxic agent that its anti-tumor effects are governed through suppression of topoisomerase II a key enzyme in apoptosis. In previous studies, cytotoxicity and apoptotic effects of calprotectin are shown on different cancer cell lines, but not human gastric cancer cell lines. In the present study, cytotoxicity and apoptotic effects of calprotectin on human gastric ...
متن کاملCurcumol Inhibits Growth and Induces Apoptosis of Colorectal Cancer LoVo Cell Line via IGF-1R and p38 MAPK Pathway
Curcumol, isolated from the traditional medical plant Rhizoma Curcumae, is the bioactive component of Zedoary oil, whose potential anti-tumor effect has attracted considerable attention in recent years. Though many researchers have reported curcumol and its bioactivity, the potential molecular mechanism for its anti-cancer effect in colorectal cancer LoVo cells still remains unclear. In the pre...
